Promoting Green Recovery Project ( PGRP) (June 19, 2021 to Jun 30, 2022)
In the cooperation with UNDP and partnership with Birendranagar Municipality, Interdependnet society Surkhet have been executing its ongoing project “Promoting Green Recovery Project” in Birendranagar Municipality. The project is being implemented in respective wards of birendranagar (1 to 12 wards of the municipality).So as to achieve the project expected result, ISS have been joining its hand with local level stakeholders, wards representative, representative from Tole development committee and related agencies. The main purpose of this project is to support Birendranagar Municipality for effective management of municipal waste to promote greenery and promote green employment opportunities for the left behind categories of the people in the municipality. It aims is to asisst Birendranagar Municipality in developing and implementing of the comprehensive green recovery plan in terms of materializing their clean city, waste to energy and zero waste concepts. By supporting to develop waste management system, it aims to manage the waste from Hospitals, city, Bus Park, and household level Similarly, it induce the notion of waste reduction, reusing the waste materials, and producing biogas and compost the awareness level of the people will be enhanced. On the other hand, proper management of the landfill site, service delivery from the local government and environmental consciousness plays the vital role in waste management. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3R) system is a sustainable means of waste management. If the public reduces the waste at the source, it decreases lots of efforts to manage it. If the public are aware of the waste reduction process in their home, it employs people, provides organic fertilizer . The recycle level waste management coverts waste into energy. In this context,this project aims to create proper business recovery and green growth in the post-COVID context in line with UNDP Nepal Framework for Responding to the Socio-Economic Impacts of COVID-19. It will employ around 300 individuals while also effectively managing the generation of the waste. It aims to build proper public advocacy and knowledge dissemination about the proper waste management to the people of communities by in terms to achieve ownership and proper level of social cohesion. To promote green in Municipality, this project works on following components:
a. Plan, policy development/implementation
b. Advocacy
c. Production and Income generation
d. Go green ( Recycle, Reuse and Reduce)
e. Green parks/roads
Objective:
The major objective behind implementation of the project is to support the socio-economic recovery and retain the livelihoods of those severely affected by the COVID-19 crisis aligned with the principle of 'leave no one behind' and 'reach furthest behind the first'. The project will cover and have strong interlinkages among all the 4 major components namely on-farm production and livestock, agro-forestry and green parks, improved irrigation and energy services and strengthening supply chain and market system. The project will aim to use the theory of change whereby the timely interventions that boost the agricultural value chains will enable the sustainable generation of income among the participants through promoting enterprises based on local resources and markets.
Expected results:
1. Municipality will develop the Comprehensive plan for waste management and implement to promote greenery.
2. Waste management system will be established and functioned at house level and the city. Collection, segregation and processing. unit will be established
3. People from vulnerable groups will employed in waste collection, segregation and processing, self employed reusing the waste and households increased their average income through engaging in composting
